VANCE PUBLISHING

This company was Vance Publishing, which was a B2B trade magazine company. I worked as the graphic designer of the Industrial Division for 7 years. The Industrial Division had 3 different magazines: Custom Woodworking Business, Wood & Wood Products and Closets. Custom Woodworking Business focused on custom projects such as board rooms and living rooms.
Wood & Wood Products focused on the industrial side of woodworking and focused on case studies of various factories and woodworking shops.

Each month, I did the layout and design for all three magazines and uploaded them to the printer. I was also in charge of a rebrand of Custom Woodworking Business. The redesign focused on adding more clarity to the layouts with more white space and less clutter.

CWB Magazine: Cover

The is the cover of an issue of Custom Woodworking Magazine. This covered custom woodworking projects such as living rooms, board rooms, boat interiors, etc. I was responsible for designing and laying out the entire magazine, as well as being in charge of a rebrand; I redesigned the logo and interior templates.

CWB Magazine: Spread

This is a spread from Custom Wood Business magazine. We wanted to limit the amount of photos we used on the opening spreads and focus on fewer, higher quality photos.

W&WP: Cover

This is a cover for Wood & Wood Products. The feature was a story regarding the health of the woodworking industry. The editor-in-chief and I came up with the idea to have various products pertaining to the woodworking industry in a blood pressure gauge. I was responsible for creating the cover illustration.

W&WP: Wood & Wood Products Magazine Spread

This is a spread from Wood & Wood Products Magazine. We used the same principles we used for CWB by using one large image to introduce the story instead of using many small photos.

WCMA: Wood Component Manufacturers Association

This is a spread from the Wood Component Manufacturers Association story. This ran once a year in Wood & Wood Products Magazine. I scanned in some wood samples to use for the headers and give it a warm feeling and set it apart from the rest of the magazine.

Closets: Cover

This is a cover for Closets Magazine. This cover was different than the typical Closets cover in that it featured people. Typically, it would feature a woodworking project such as a closet system.

Closets: Editor's Note

This is an editor’s note page. The editor’s photo is placed on the side in its own column with a pull quote underneath the photo. Sometimes an image would be placed along with with text depending on what was being said in the editor’s note.
